The Sabbath represents the covenant with God

The fourth commandment of an eternal & immutable law

ribete

In the fourth commandment is found the seal of God’s law. This only commandment, of all the ten, brings to view the name and the title of the Lawgiver.

When the Sabbath was changed by the papal power, the seal was taken from the law.

Introduction

To all Christians who receive the Sabbath as a sign of Christ’s creative and redemptive power, this experience will be a delight. The Sabbath reminds them of the works of creation, as well as the evidence of the Messiah’s great redemptive power. While recalling the lost peace of Eden, the true Sabbath speaks of the peace restored by the Savior.

We are not merely to observe the Sabbath as a legal matter. We are to understand its spiritual bearing upon all the transactions of life. All who regard the Sabbath as a sign between them and God, showing that He is the God who sanctifies them, will represent the principles of His government. They will bring into daily practice the laws of His kingdom. Daily it will be their prayer that the sanctification of the Sabbath may rest upon them. Every day they will have the companionship of Christ and will exemplify the perfection of His character.

Jesus’ followers are called to restore Sabbath observance by exalting it as a memorial of the Creator and a sign of His authority.

The Sabbath has been kept since the creation week

ribete

When the foundations of the earth were laid at creation, the children of God gazed in wonder at the Creator’s handiwork, and the heavenly host shouted with joyful exclamations. Then the foundations of the Sabbath were also laid.

After the six days of creation, God rested on the seventh day from all the work He had done, and blessed and sanctified it. The Sabbath was instituted in Eden before the entrance of sin. It was observed by Adam and Eve and all the heavenly host.

The Sabbath was not for Israel merely, but for the whole world. From Adam and Eve to the descendants of Seth who remained faithful to God, all who remained loyal to the Most High kept the Sabbath before the existence of the first Jew, who was Abraham. The holy Sabbath had been made known to man in Eden and, like the other precepts of the Decalogue, it is an imperishable obligation.

The law of God is eternal & immutable

ribete

The law of God would stand fast forever. It will exist in the new earth to all eternity. Obviously, this also includes the fourth commandment. The Sabbath will never be abolished, but the redeemed saints and all the angelic host will eternally observe it in honor of the great Creator.

📖 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:8-11)

Of that law of which the fourth commandment forms a part, Christ declares, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law (Matthew 5:18). So long as the heavens and the earth endure, the Sabbath will continue as a sign of the Creator’s power. And when Eden shall bloom on earth again, God’s holy rest day will be honored by all beneath the sun. From one sabbath to another, the inhabitants of the glorified new earth shall worship before me, saith the Lord (Isaiah 66:23).

The Sabbath distincts true Christians

ribete

The Sabbath was the sign that distinguished Israel when they came out of Egypt to enter the earthly Canaan. It is also the sign that now distinguishes God’s people as they come out from the world to enter the heavenly rest.

As the tree of knowledge was the test of Adam’s obedience, so the fourth command is the test that God has given to prove the loyalty of all His people. The experience of Adam is to be a warning to us so long as time shall last. It warns us not to receive any assurance from the mouth of men or of angels that will detract one jot or tittle from the sacred law of Jehovah.

Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath

ribete

The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:8). These words are full of instruction and comfort. Because the Sabbath was made for man, it is the Lord’s day. It belongs to Christ. For by Him all things were made; and without Him was not anything made that was made (John 1:3). Just as Jesus created everything, He also established the institution of the Sabbath. By Him it was set apart as a memorial of the work of creation. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

The Sabbath presents Christ to us as both Sanctifier and Creator. It declares that He who created all things in heaven and on earth, and through whom all things exist, is head of the church. By his power, Christians are reconciled to God.

The Great Controversy

The Great Controversy

{ Ellen White }

ribete

Right after the Bible, The Great Controversy, written by Ellen White, is the second most important book for a true Christian.

Every man or woman who decides to accept the true faith of Jesus must read this magnificent writing which, inspired by God, details the ins and outs of the big battle for souls between Satan’s minions and faithful followers of Christ during the last 2,000 years of history.

But above all, The Great Controversy narrates in a prophetic way the events that will happend in these last times of history, the great final battle between Satan and Jesus, expanding on the prophecies that prophets, psalmists and evangelists wrote in the Bible about the end times and the so awaited second coming of Christ.
